2016 Fly Fishing Event Calendar

Spring is right around the corner! I was doing a bit of web site work and was updating my event calendar so I figured I would put a post up letting you all know about some of the events coming up this year. The calendar and dates are at the bottom of the post. Note that the White River Open dates have not been confirmed yet.  If there are any events you would like me to add shoot me an email.  

So what are these events all about?  This years fun begins with the Fly Fishing Film tour Presented by Middlebury Mountaineer. This is a super fun way to get pumped about the season with a ton of awesome videos, beer, and trade show.  Reserve your tickets early.  The evening also doubles as registration for the Otter Creek Classic Opening Weekend Fly Fishing Tournament.  There seriously is not a better way to kick off trout season in Vermont.  There are a ton of good men and women competing, but it really boils down to good people out celebrating the beginning of trout season.   

The second tournament of the year is the White River Open in Royalton, VT.  Its modeled after the Otter Creek Classic but one day.  The beauty of this tournament is that it is very laid back and right in prime time as far as trout fishing goes in Vermont,  meaning just about everyone gets a least one fish on the scoreboard.  There is a mandatory registration the night before the event as well as a casting comp and everyone get together and has at least a drink at the bar afterwards.
As defending Champion of the pro division I'm planning on being back there again this season. 

The last notable tournament of 2016 is my favorite and I think the largest.  The Ditch Pickle Classic is a hands down one of the best weekends of the my year. A two day bass fly fishing tourney on Lake Champlain, the event drew over 60 teams of 2 or 3 anglers. The beauty of the tourney is there is a paddle division so you don't need to have a fancy boat to compete. My partner and I are taking this seriously this season after an overall 4th place finish thanks to losing a tie breaker that kept us off the podium.

There are also three Green Mountain Fly Fishing Camps going on this season.  The kids who have taken part in these camps have had a great time and most are returnees.  The coaches are great and it is really an awesome opportunity for kids looking to learn or who already fly fish.  I know space is limited to contact Green Mountain Troutfitters if you are interested.
